Many users are used to moving the taskbar in Windows to the top of the screen. For many, this is more convenient for working and therefore you might want to use this setting under Windows 11 as well.

Unfortunately, this is not possible at the moment, at least not with the standard Windows settings. However, you can still use a workaround to make this option possible again in the Windows 11 registry.

In our guide, we will explain exactly how to do this:

Move the taskbar to the top of the screen - Instructions for Windows 11

Windows 11

1. First open the registry editor by entering "regedit" in the Windows search and then selecting "registry editor" in the results.

2. Within the editor, now navigate to the address bar and search for the following key:

  •  Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects

Registry Editor

3. As soon as you have navigated to the "StuckRects3" key, double-click on the "settings" key in this key with the left mouse button.

4. A window opens with "Edit binary value". Find the second row of values from the top and count to the fifth value from the left. By default, this value is set to "03".

5. Place the cursor directly to the right of "03". Then enter 01.

  • 03 means task bar at the bottom
  • 01 means task bar on top

Editor for Taskbar

6. When you have finished, select "OK".

7. Close the Registry Editor and restart Windows Explorer. Therefore press Ctrl+Shift+DEL to open the Task Manager and go to "More Details" to view the entire interface.
Switch to the "Processes" tab and look for "Windows Explorer" in the list.

8. Once you have found it, right-click on it and select "Restart".

You should now be able to see the Windows taskbar at the top of the display. You have now moved the taskbar to the top of the screen in Windows 11 without any problems.
